  • Card-based or arena style Sandbox Games like Madness Melee are perfect for jumping in, playing a few quick rounds, and then hopping out – without taking up too much of your time.

  • LensUp says:

My son is in first grade and came home from the last swap with a book about a very stubborn goat, so hearing it’s coming back in January is good news in this house. Anything that gets a six-year-old to pick up something other than a screen gets my vote.

The part nobody warns you about is the slip that comes with it. Signed, returned, and the school portal only takes PDFs under a certain size. I took a photo of ours with my phone and ran it through LensUp — a tool that makes a pdf look scanned — so the office would accept it without asking why it looked too clean. Straightened it, kept it to one page, and the compression aims at whatever size you pick, though it can land a bit over, so I always check before sending. Files stay on the device and the processing happens right in the browser tab, which is the only reason I tried it on a form with my kid’s name on it.

  • Targeting pre-k through 2nd graders is a smart window for building foundational literacy habits; repeated exposure to different books can significantly boost vocabulary and comprehension. I wonder how the swap is structured—do children bring books from home, or does the program provide a rotating classroom library? Also, are there any plans to track reading growth over the year to measure the program’s impact? This could be a useful model for other communities.

Book swapping is such a lovely way to get young readers excited — pairing pre-K through 2nd graders with a book they chose themselves makes reading feel like a treat rather than homework. I found this community story via minimax h3 and the partnership with the Boys & Girls Club is exactly the kind of local collaboration that keeps kids coming back for more books.

Reading about the real-time booking aspect of this microtransit service made me pause from my usual motion-sync experiments over at Ozil Goal AI, since the idea of scheduling rides ahead of time feels surprisingly similar to planning out a video sequence. It’s a nice mental break to think about how small, local solutions are improving daily logistics.
